Hanna Ljungberg returned after a five-month injury lay-off to complete the scoring as Sweden won 4-0 in Iceland to all but seal a berth in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Moström penalty
The first half at the Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavik was even, with Malin Moström the only player to score, from the penalty spot, in the 13th minute. The Sweden captain’s opener was followed up by Sara Thunebro in the 62nd and Victoria Svensson made the game safe with her side’s third goal with ten minutes remaining. Umeå IK forward Ljungberg then got in on the act, finding the net in the 86th.
'Big loss'
Iceland assistant Elisabet Gunnarsdottir, who took charge of the team with coach Jörundur Áki Sveinsson suspended, said: "This was a big loss, too big, but we had a number of injuries which upset the balance of our team and we were well out of it by the end." Captain Asthildur Helgadottir, based in Sweden with Malmö FF, added: "This was a better performance than against the Czechs. If we would have kept possession after half-time with out have been different."
